Are private swim lessons just for kids?
No, private lessons are available to all YMCA members ages 5 and up.
Is it safe for people to swim in shared water?
Per the CDC, the virus cannot be transmitted through properly treated water. Our pool chemicals are always maintained within the required ranges set by the health department. Should our water ever go outside of that range, we close down the pool until the water is safe to swim in again.
Do I or my child need to wear a mask while in the water?
No, we are not allowing swim participants to wear masks in the water as it presents a safety hazard.
How long are the swim lessons?
Swim lessons are 25-40 minutes long depending on the class.
Do I need to be a Y member to sign up for swim lessons?
No, swim lessons are available to anyone; however, members receive priority registration.
Is there a limit to how many private lessons an individual can schedule?
At this time, we are restricting members to 8 private lessons per 8-week session.
Can locker rooms or showers be used for swim lesson participants?
The all-gender family locker room is open. Individual changing and showering stalls are available in this space that are large enough for parents who need to assist their child with changing/showering. Participants ages 11 and up may use the adult locker rooms.
My child is enrolled in afterschool at the Y, can I also enroll them in swim lessons?
No, swim lessons that fall within the afterschool program time frame are NOT available for youth who are enrolled in the afterschool program as staff will not be able to escort them to aquatics and vice versa.
Important Program Registration Policies
Programs:
Advance registration is required for all programs. To receive the member rate on any program, the participant must remain a member for the duration of the program, or choose the non-member rate. All balance dues on a unit must be paid before the participant is allowed to enroll in another program. Guardians of children 0-9 years old must stay in their children's program area, including aquatics programs, for the duration of the program. Guardians of children 10-12 years old are required to stay in the facility but do not have to be in the immediate area of the program.
Program Credits/Refunds:
If a program is canceled by the YMCA, every attempt will be made to place you in another convenient class. Should rescheduling be impossible, a YMCA credit will be given per conditions listed in other policies. Sign-ups are not transferable to or from another registered participant. If a participant withdraws from a program or class because of military reasons, YMCA credit for the missed class(es) may be issued. If a participant withdraws from a program with the reasoning that they are ill, a doctor’s note verifying illness is required before potential credit is provided. If a participant withdraws from a program that does not have an established waitlist, there is no credit provided for this class. In any of these situations, please contact the Membership Director.
Programs (Multi-Week, Progressive) Credits Refunds:
Multi-week registrations (i.e. group swim lessons) canceled before the start of a session will be credited in full if a wait list has formed for the program. Cancellations received during the first two weeks of the session will only be considered for credit with a signed medical note or military orders. No refunds or credits will be issued after the first two weeks of the session. If making a change to a program at a different price point, any balance due must be paid immediately.
Programs (Multi-Week) Cancellations/Changes:
Given the progressive nature of YMCA instructional programs, any changes or cancellations will only be considered and/or processed during the first two weeks of the session. Late registrations will only be accepted during the first two weeks of a session and will be prorated based on the number of classes missed. Late registrations can only be processed in-house. Programs may accept late registrations after the first two weeks based on class space. Changes to registrations may be made before the start of the session based on availability at the program director's discretion. After the start of the session, changes can only be made with approval from the appropriate department director.
Programs are non-refundable and credits are not issued for partial use of a program. Private lessons may only be canceled or changed with 24 hours' notice AND when a doctor’s note is submitted. No refunds will be considered, and a credit will be considered only when the doctor’s note is shown to the Membership Director.
THERE ARE NO MAKE-UP LESSONS FOR ANY AQUATICS PROGRAM.
