Y Mention It: Red Cross Blood Shortage, Winter Weather, & More

National Blood Crisis
The Red Cross has let us know that they are facing a dire situation with the supply of available blood. They have issued a plea for donors to give blood or platelets immediately to help overcome the worst blood shortage in 10+ years. Donors of all blood types, especially O, are needed. Sign up now at rcblood.org/donate.
Winter Weather Ahead
We are seeing significant snowfall on the forecast for this weekend. This may affect our open hours on Monday, including the Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course, swimming lessons, and Food Hub delivery/availabiliity.
We will evaluate conditions on Sunday to determine whether we will need to delay opening, and we will post updates on our website at ithacaymca.com as well as social media. Thank you.
Work @ the Y
We are hiring dedicated, qualified people for a variety of positions, including childcare staff and supervisors, group fitness instructors, welcome center representatives, swim instructors and lifeguards.
If you are passionate about youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, then you share our values! Take a look at our openings, and if you think you'd be a good fit, please fill out an application.
Congratulations to our Interim CEO, Teresa Morehouse!
As we say farewell to our longtime Chief Executive Officer Frank Towner, we are also congratulating Teresa Morehouse, who will serve as Interim CEO as well as Associate Executive Director.
Teresa has been with our YMCA for years, showing steady leadership and even-keeled management while approaching her work with a sense of humor. We are certain that these qualities will continue to benefit the whole Y community while we find our next CEO!
Child Watch Is Available
Did you know the Y includes Child Watch facilities? Our staff provide fun and enriching activities for ages 6 weeks to 3 years in Lots o' Tots and ages 4-9 years in Stay and Play.
These programs are open Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-noon & 3:00-7:00 pm. Drop your child off while you get your workout at the Y, go to an appointment, or run errands off-site. Our staff — trained in first aid, CPR, youth development, behavioral management, and other skills — will make sure they have a fun and productive time!
Reservations are required. Check out ithacaymca.com/child-watch.html for full policies and other details.
Remember Your Gym Shoes!
Our cleaners have been dealing with a lot of snow and salt tracked into fitness areas from the outdoors.
Please remember to bring a clean pair of shoes to wear while you're getting your workout.
