Class Description: Karate classes for both children and adults. We offer progressive classes for all experience levels, and will introduce students to Shito Ryu Karate-Do. Students will learn basic movements, katas, and age-appropriate self-defense and sparring techniques. All classes are taught by a certified black belt instructor with over 13 years of teaching experience, and over 18 years of training in Karate-Do. Students will have the option to test for rank as a part of Shito Ryu Karate Do Genbu Kai, an internationally recognized, and highly respected, organization. Dates/Times: Mon 5:00-6:00pm - Open Youth Karate (all levels) 6:30-7:30pm - Adult Karate (all levels) Wed5:00-6:00pm - Open Youth Karate (all levels) 6:30-7:30 - Adult Karate (all levels) Fri5:00-6:00pm - Intermediate Class (requires instructor's permission) Sat12:30-1:30pm Open Youth Karate (all levels) You can find session dates and sign-up dates here. ***NOTE***There will not be classes held on Friday, October 15, or Saturday, October 16. Instructor: Adam Segal The goal of the Ithaca YMCA Karate-Do program is to build character through positive role models and training which emphasizes the values of traditional Japanese martial arts: respect, courtesy, self-discipline, responsibility, respect for authority and hard work. In Karate, each student works at his or her own pace. All students participate, not just those who are the best or most talented. As students advance and become more experienced, they are expected to be good role models and help newer students learn. The purpose of Karate-Do is to train for your whole life to become the most perfect person you can be! When you reach that goal, you feel the true value of Karate-Do. I am here to study Karate-Do, for it brings great meaning to my life!
