The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County strives to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all. As a member or visitor, you are asked to report any potentially dangerous situations to the front desk or building supervisor. In an attempt to ensure the safety and security of all our patrons and employees, we require everyone entering the building to either scan their key tag or complete the sign-in log regardless of what you are doing in the facility. This includes parents who are picking up a child from an activity or program, with no exceptions.
A few of the most important policies include:
- Children under the age of 10 are not to be left unsupervised in the building and must be supervised by an adult 18 years or older at the YMCA, unless the child is participating in a YMCA staff supervised program. These participants should be walked into the facility, checked into programs, and picked up directly from the program.
- Children ages 10-12 may be in the YMCA without direct supervision if an adult 18 years or older or parent is within the facility. These children must abide by all the YMCA policies. Members ages 10-12 may be trained to use the cardio equipment only.
- Juniors ages 13-17 may use all YMCA activities without adult supervision, including courts, gymnasium, fitness areas (with appropriate training and trainer approval), and swimming pools.
Junior Membership Policy:
- The YMCA requires that all Junior members (13-17) must scan their membership key tags upon entering the facility. If they do not have their key tag they MUST SIGN IN AND SHOW IDENTIFICATION. ID includes any photo ID and Library Card if signed. Cell phones, IPods and other technological devices are not accepted as ID.
- As an alternative, junior members may have an adult/parent sign them into the facility, thus verifying identification.
- Junior members MAY NOT bring guests; non-members should pay the “activity fee” and show identification.
As always, we ask parents to assist this policy by reinforcing the rules with their junior member. Non-members under the age of 18 may not use any of the weight or cardio equipment at the YMCA facility.
Guest/Non-Member Policy
- Adult members are encouraged to bring guests to the YMCA. A non-member can be a guest of an adult member twice for free, up to two guests at one time and the member must accompany them in the facility.
- For those visiting the area, the YMCA offers the option of an “activity fee” which allows the person to participate in an activity or use the facility at $9 for adults 18 and up, $5 for ages 13-17 and $3 for youth ages 12 and under. As stated, earlier ages 13-17 must have ID to enter the facility.
- “AWAY” GUESTS: If you are a member of another YMCA you may enter as our guest, after presenting your Y member card and ID. Away guests may visit twice for free and any visit thereafter would be at the rate of $4.50 for adults 18 and up, $2.50 for ages 13-17 and $1.50 for ages 12 and under. Please ask the front desk if you are one of the “Collaborative Neighborhood” Y’s; if you are there is no charge.
ALL NON-MEMBERS, GUESTS AND VISITORS MUST SHOW OFFICIAL IDENTIFICATION TO ENTER THE BUILDING.
Phone & Electronic Policy
Due to advances in video technology in telephones and other visual recording devices, usage of cell phones or other devices with recording capability are prohibited in locker rooms, bathrooms, or program areas. Cell phone usage is limited to the entrance area or the lobby. Videotaping or taking pictures is prohibited, and those exhibiting non-compliance with this policy will be asked to vacate the premises. If the offender is a member and has had due warning in regards to policy non-compliance, the member may lose membership privileges. This policy is for the protection of our membership and visitors. Please assist us by honoring this request and bringing this policy to the attention of your fellow Y members, or notify Y staff of any violation of policy.
