The value of a YMCA membership varies according to individual or family need.  As a Y member, you have not only joined an organization whose name indicates over 150 years of recognition world-wide, but an ever-evolving, family-oriented institution that represents the importance of the congruity of a healthy spirit, mind, and body.  The YMCA may have evolved along with the family unit and societal changes, yet the character-development representations and values of the YMCA remain unchanged, namely Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility.

In order to accommodate various forms of individual needs and family designations, the YMCA of Ithaca offers a choice of categories to fit the need.  Youth and Junior memberships are offered as an annual choice only, while individual and family memberships have several selections.  Youth members may enjoy swim lessons, family swim, youth sports, summer camp, after-school, and numerous, age-appropriate childcare options to name just a few.  Junior members take advantage of memberships that equal in value to full individual adult membership.  Adults and families benefit from full facility usage, including fitness orientations, fitness classes, water exercise, lap swim, racquetball, various health topic discussions, basketball leagues, Masters swim, cardiovascular/circuit rooms, free weight facilities, adult locker rooms, sauna, family swims, special family nights, and special events.

Membership choices:

  • Perpetual bank draft!- The membership fee is deducted from a member's checking account perpetually, until the member chooses to discontinue, at which time the YMCA is notified of the desired suspension or cancellation date through a written notice of cancellation in writing 30 days prior!.  The fees are deducted from the member's checking account on the first business day of each month.  Length of membership suspension may be at the member's discretion for a period of time, with no penalty due upon rejoining.

  • Annual - The fee covers a full year, payable in a single payment.  Member does not have the benefit of a temporary suspension during periods where it may not be used.  A perpetual bank draft may be more apt choice for those who will have terms of non-usage.
  • 3-month - The fee covers a 3-month period, payable in a single payment.  This is also a choice for a trial membership, and can be extended nine months to equal an annual after the 3-month term has expired.

A new member joiner's fee of $30 is payable upon membership inception with the perpetual bank draft and annual membership choices.  If a member has been a member of another YMCA and paid a joiner's fee at that location, or if the member was a previous member of the Ithaca YMCA and paid a joiner's fee, the YMCA will waive the $30 fee.  A joiner's fee does not apply to Youth or Junior members.  Family memberships include Youth and Juniors through high school senior.

Scholarship Program

Thanks to the generous donations from our membership and the community, the YMCA of Ithaca is fortunate to be able to offer scholarships to those who are truly unable to meet membership or program costs.  Decisions on the levels of financial assistance are based on a number of factors.  Among the most important are program and membership costs; the number of scholarship applicants; the amount of money raised for this purpose through annual fundraisers and United Way allocations; and the relative level of income and assets of all current applicants.  Subsidies are based on short-terms, and are reviewed on a regular basis.

 ! - Bank draft cancellation or suspension:  Cancellations/suspensions must be put in writing by stopping at front desk to fill out the bank draft cancellation form, downloading/e-mailing cancellation form, or e-mail tmorehouse@ithacaymca.com.  Please include what month preferred for cancellation (please observe 30-day notice), reason for suspending or canceling, name, date, address and what month membership should restart if applicable.

*There is a $30 new member Joiner Fee added to all new annual and perpetual memberships in the individual and family categories.  This does not apply to youth or junior memberships.
