Exclusion

1)         A child should be removed from day care when:

A)                He/She shows signs of infection;

1)                  Fever - (100 degrees and above)

2)                  Green discharge from nose

3)                  Vomiting

4)                  Diarrhea

5)                  Unknown skin rash

6)                  Evidence of head lice

7)                  Severe coughing, wheezing, or other difficulty breathing

8)                  Conjunctivitis

9)                  Abnormal behavior i.e. lethargy, irritability, persistent crying

 

B)     The illness requires more care than the childcare staff are able to provide without compromising the needs of the other children in the group.

C)     Keeping the child in care poses an increased risk to the child or to the other children or adults with whom the child will come in contact with.

 

Readmission

 

2)         Children may return:

A.     When the child has been symptom free for 24 hours.

B.     If antibiotics have been prescribed… after that the medication must have been administered for 24 hours.

3)         General Guidelines:

A.                 The same policy exclusion will apply to the staff that is ill.

B.                 The child’s response to fever reducing medicines (e.g. acetaminophen) is not helpful in deciding how sick the child is.

C.                 Notification to the staff is appreciated if your child is diagnosed and/or has been exposed to a communicable disease.

Inform the childcare staff immediately if there are any changes in emergency information
